Your mission
In this position, we're looking for a Compliance Officer to join our new, supportive and global team. Together with the team you’re continuing the transformation and consolidation of SMS Compliance Programs & Culture to lead people, processes and systems up the maturity ladder with the aim to protect and strengthen our value for employees, customers, suppliers and communities. You drive Compliance as a trusted value-added business partner to the business while making it part of the everyday business practices through teamwork and collaborative approach.
You also manage and advise on compliance activities within the area, set priorities, and keep up-to-date information and advice on regulatory and legal requirements. Find compliance risks within the area and work with the business on justifying compliance risks. You have oversight and implement compliance policy, developed and deployed training tools, templates, and processes to manage compliance risk, and shared best practices. Finally, of course, you ensure adherence to The Sandvik Way, applicable legislation, and established policies and procedures within the area of responsibility and inspire pride and change in the wider context of Sandvik's 2030 sustainability development.

You have flexible working conditions while being at one of our European offices (Sweden, Turkey, Belgium or Poland to name a few), and some travel is a natural part of the job whenever the circumstances are back to normal.
Your profile
We’re looking for someone with a University degree in law with relevant specialization and extensive work experience within the field of compliance, preferably 5+years. It’s important that you’ve been working hands-on with contract review and GDPR. And as we act on a global scene, fluency in both written and verbal are needed.

As an effective communicator and trusted advisor, you create solid collaborations and show high integrity. You enjoy solving problems and influence new perspectives, always focusing on continuous improvement – searching for efficiency and new solutions to our processes. The business area of Sandvik Machining Solutions (SMS) is the leading supplier in the global cutting tool industry and our brand portfolio holds some of the strongest brands in the market. Patents and other technology-related Intellectual Property (IP) rights are vital and high-priority elements of our business operations.


To support the creation and maintenance of a strong patent portfolio for Seco Tools, one of our successful SMS brands, we’re now looking for a Patent Attorney to join a team of experienced patent professionals, which is part of the SMS Legal organization. You also partner up with the Material and Technology R&D at Seco Tools in Fagersta (Sweden) and other business units of Seco Tools worldwide.


The job
The Material and Technology R&D at Seco Tools in Fagersta has a track record of leading innovations in the area of materials and technology for cutting tools, which has enabled them to introduce unique and profitable products to the market. Your main responsibility is to support Seco Tools in building and maintaining a strong IP position in this area. This covers all aspects of IP work from capturing of inventions, running patent board meetings, preparation and prosecution of patent applications, freedom to operate investigations through to handling of opposition proceedings and disputes. And of course, you do this in close collaboration with Seco Tools business, the patent team and legal counsels.


The location for this position is expected to be at the Seco Tools headquarters in Fagersta (Sweden), where most of the R&D in the area of materials and technology is performed.


Your background and personality
We’re looking for someone with a university degree in a relevant technical field, such as materials science or engineering physics and you’re a Patent Attorney registered to practice for a patent office - and preferably a qualified European Patent Attorney. You have at least five years’ experience from preparing and prosecuting patent applications in relevant technical fields, such as materials development, coating technology, manufacturing processes or similar. As we operate on the global stage, we require that you have advanced skills in English, both verbally and in writing, while knowledge of Swedish is a plus.


It is also important that you have a broad business mindset and a service focused approach, yet confident in your area of expertise to efficiently advice the business and to contribute to the development and implementation of IP strategies. You’re analytical and creative and you look at things from different perspectives to find the best results. On top of this, you’re action-oriented and decisive, and have a genuine passion for intellectual property and technology.
